Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the treatment of choice for most mood disorders including depression, anxiety, stress and trauma. The National Institute of Clinical Health and Excellence (NICE, UK) recommends that CBT is the first treatment of choice (eg for social anxiety).
CBT begins with an assessment of your current wellbeing from which we work together to create a formulation of your situation. A treatment plan is then created. This provides both you as the client and myself as the therapist a structure of understanding between us.
Throughout the course of CBT treatment we will work together using a variety of psychological therapy instruments to monitor changes in mood and thereby alter therapy to adhere to the most appropriate treatment and achieve the best outcomes.
Other methods I use in session include Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Stress Reduction, Exposure and Relapse Prevention, Behavioural Activation and Sleep Hygiene.
